Introduction:
Douglas Moss, affectionately known as Dougie, is an ACE registered Warmblood assessed Premium, with sought-after De Niro/ Donnerhall bloodlines. Thoughtfully produced, he combines a kind temperament with a broad range of experiences beyond the arena. His laid-back nature and willingness make him a very appealing partner for a capable junior or adult rider wanting to enjoy Pony Club, Adult Riding Club, competing and hacking.
Education, skills and experience:
Dougie has been produced slowly, with regular seasonal spells to support his development. He is currently attending Hurstbridge ARC at Level 4 and St Andrews Pony Club, where he has been ridden by a 13-year-old.
His education includes shows, dressage days, jumping outings and cross-country clinics, along with low-level jumping and cross-country schooling. He confidently hacks out alone or in company, has mustered cattle and is familiar with working equitation-style obstacles. This varied experience has given him a useful foundation for a home that enjoys doing a bit of everything.
General demeanour under saddle:
Dougie is calm, tolerant and non-reactive, adapting his effort to his rider. Naturally laid-back, he is happy to plod along when given less direction and steps up willingly when a more capable rider asks for more.
He is comfortable in a snaffle, forgiving of mistakes and uncomplicated ride and to continue educating. Consistency in his frame and collection is still developing and benefits from time and clear aids to support this stage of his training.
Current workload / fitness:
Dougie is currently in light work, generally ridden once or twice a week. He does not require daily riding to remain reliable. He is safe is sensible to get straight back on after a break, returning to work with the same straightforward attitude.
Handling:
Dougie is easy to catch, lead and tie, stands quietly for clipping and washing and is reliable for the farrier. He self-loads and unloads calmly.
He is accustomed to farm life, dogs and busy roads and has been unfazed by fireworks. Friendly and interested in his people, he can be an “in your pocket” type while remaining polite and manageable. He is currently shod.
Feeding and management:
Dougie’s usual diet includes chaff, showtorque, beet pulp and minerals. He is paddocked and prefers being in a herd.
Medical history:
Dougie is up to date with dental and is shod. He is sensitive to dust but this is straightforward to manage. Vet checks are welcome at a buyer's expense.
Rider Suitability:
Dougie is best suited to a capable junior looking for a second horse or an adult rider wanting a kind, confidence-building partner for ARC, Pony Club, competing and hacking.
He suits someone who appreciates a naturally laid-back horse, who appreciates his well rounded foundation and is happy to continue developing him.
Reason for sale:
Dougie is only offered for sale because his owner is retaining his sister for breeding. He is very much loved by his breeders and will only be sold to the right home.
