NEW FOREST PONY STALLION – HABAFIELD CARTIER

14hh, 15 years old. Chestnut with blaze and one white sock behind. Branded & microchipped. Located in the Indigo Valley in North East Victoria.

The New Forest pony is one of the larger native mountain and moorland ponies of the British Isles. Height varies from 12-14.2hh and they are much valued for their hardiness and sure-footedness. They are sturdy, up to weight and can be ridden by children and adults alike. Most are bay, chestnut or black, and they have a gentle temperament and a reputation for intelligence and versatility. The crossbred New Forest is particularly sought after for Pony Club, Adult Riding Club and does well in both show jumping and dressage.

Muscles has been with us for over 5 years and sired some beautiful offspring from principally Arabian mares, and one TB/Morgan mare. He is the ideal stallion for easy breeding, being happy to serve his mares in-hand or in the paddock and is a gentleman to handle. He is an easy keeper, and has done exceptionally well on our hilly native pastures and winters without a rug. Muscles currently runs with an elderly mare companion and we are happy for her to accompany him on his next move at no additional purchase cost, if required. Muscles is easy to catch, float and for the farrier. He is our first stallion and has proved to be an ideal animal for newcomers to breeding.

Muscles’ youngsters are sociable, amenable, well handled and beautiful as well, ranging from around 12hh at 15 months to 14.2hh at 18 months. They are easy to catch, good for the farrier, and we are starting on floating training as the eldest will be 3yo next year and ready for initial training. We have run the youngsters together since birth, which has meant easy weaning and well adjusted animals that have had time and space to run together as a herd with all the advantages that this gives.

Muscles’ fertility is very high, and we have had 100% success rate in our breeding. He served an elderly (18 yo) 16hh mare and she took immediately and we currently have this offspring growing on, for sale at a later date. We are only moving Muscles onto his next home as he somewhat under-utilised with us, and our advancing years means that we are looking to downsize our livestock numbers .

We are looking for an excellent home for Muscles and an owner/s who will be able to utilise him in their breeding program (New Forests and their part bred stock are very well sought after and not often available). His offspring are all eligible for registration with the Australian Pony Stud Book Society.
