Quality young gelding by The Blacksmith, PHAA Overall High Point Leading Sire of the Year for 3 consecutive years and PHAA High Point Leading Halter Sire for 2 years.

Dex has an impressive early show record, including 2022 National Weanling Futurity Champion, Reserve National Champion Weanling Colt and AO QLD State Champion, along with numerous other wins and placings. He can continue in the halter show ring if desired, but has also had a solid foundation for a future under saddle.

He has had extensive groundwork from a young age, including desensitising to flags and tarps, liberty, lungeline and trail work.

Dex was started under saddle as a 3yo spending 3 months at Reata Ranch Horsemanship and at 4yo spent 6 weeks with a professional trainer at Rosewood Colts & Cattle Co furthering his education. During this time he was arena schooled, trail ridden, worked cattle and worked a mechanical cow.

He is currently out of work and as he is still a young, green horse and would suit a confident rider at novice level or above who can bring him back into work and continue his education. Dex is generally quiet and laid-back, but can be opinionated when pushed and may resist when asked to work harder.

This is a very difficult sale and is no fault of Dex’s. I no longer ride consistently due to ongoing health issues and having multiple horses I haven’t been able to give him the regular work he needs. As a result, he is behind where I would have liked him to be at this age. I believe he has plenty of talent and would love to see him with someone who can provide the consistency and opportunity to bring that out in him.

PSSM1: N/PSSM1 (one copy). Tested positive for one copy of the PSSM1 gene. Has not displayed any PSSM-related symptoms, including during or following periods of heavier work.
