Highlights
Interschool National Championships 2024 (Tamworth NSW) — EVA80
Straightforward and established
Safe, sound and sensible
Introduction: A very well-produced 8yo OTT Thoroughbred with competition experience to National Interschool level, Stokedown is a soft, straightforward horse for eventing, dressage and showjumping. Spike is very well loved in his current home and his sale presents an opportunity for another rider to benefit from his genuine, willing, schoolmaster nature.
Education, skills and experience: Well educated on the flat, Spike is competing Novice dressage and training Elementary. He has evented EVA80 and is showjumping confidently at 1.00m and training 1.05m. He is also used to busy Ag show environments. Out of the arena, he has beach and trail riding experience, swims, is unbothered by farm activity, dogs and stock, and will lead other horses or go bareback.
General demeanour under saddle: Spike is willing and responsive, soft in the bridle and willingly collects. He is ridden in a snaffle for all phases. He adapts to the rider’s level, tolerates mistakes and is generally calm and reliable unless something major happens and will then immediately settle and continue. Please see Owner's Response Certificate for full details.
Current workload / fitness: Spike is in regular work 3 times per week and currently competing. He is reliable without daily riding. He benefits from a quick lunge after a spell.
Handling: Spike is easy to catch, well mannered, leads and ties sensibly. Self-loads, travels quietly and unloads calmly; like most horses, he may paw in the float if stopped for a while. Good to clip and for the farrier and vet. He may fidget when being washed. He is generally very patient and settle when tied up.
Feeding and management: Spike is kept in a paddock with access to meadow hay; he receives a simple hard feed that is increased in full work. Spike can live in a herd or paddock alone but if kept alone, needs to have a companion within sight. He does not have separation anxiety.
Medical history: Spike's owner reports some changes on X‑rays (OSDP), this is managed with correct saddle fit and does not affect him. He is not on any injections, supplements or medications. Vaccinated for tetanus (Jan 2026) and last dental Jan 2026. Shod.
Rider Suitability: Best matched to a confident novice under instruction through to an intermediate rider wanting an educated, versatile partner for eventing, showjumping, dressage/showing, ARC/PC and trail riding. He suits a rider under regular professional guidance; someone who rider who appreciates a kind, straightforward horse.
Reason for sale: Owner has started university and does not have time to compete him.
