Talented 80/95 Eventer with Scope & Potential

“Des” is an 8yo, approx. 16.1hh OTTB gelding by Written Tycoon x Star Via Strada. EA Registered.

Since finishing racing as ‘Dempster’ approximately 3 years ago, Des has been produced into a genuine, established eventer with a proven competition record and plenty of scope for the future.

Des has competed successfully up to 95cm, including 4th at Seville PC Horse Trials Grade 2 (95cm), as well as multiple 80cm placings. He is an extremely reliable XC and SJ horse and has the ability and scope to continue progressing up the levels.

On the flat, Des relaxes and accepts the contact well once warmed up and has three lovely paces. He has a neat lengthened trot, can leg yield and shoulder-in, walk-to-canter, and has started work on counter-canter and flying changes.

Jumping is where Des really shines. He is naturally forward and will lock onto a fence with a great attitude — he simply doesn’t think about refusing. He often gets called “Dependable Des” for this reason!

Des thrives on consistency, routine and regular work and is a much happier, more settled horse when he has that structure. As a full-time working mum, I’ve accepted that I can’t realistically provide the consistent work and routine he thrives on. He also has way too much scope to waste — and I’m a bit of a scaredy-cat when it comes to the big heights! 😂

I’d love to see him compete at Melbourne in the OTT 1* next year so it would be great for him go to someone with similar ambitions. With his jumping ability and scope though, he could also suit a straight showjumping home.

❤️ Easy to catch, shoe and float, and will straight or angle load. Very treat motivated! Des does have his quirks. He is a sensitive soul and can be spooky or tense in new environments until he has had some time to settle in.

Des is looking for an experienced, confident rider who understands sensitive horses and can give him the consistency and routine he thrives on.
