Introduction: Billy is a quality, well-started OTT Thoroughbred gelding with the right foundation to continue producing. Professionally guided and ridden by a capable junior, he’s already out competing at 60cm with schooling to 70–75cm at home, and shows a soft, light way of going on the flat with established basics. EA Base registered and exposed to rallies, clinics and shows, he presents as a versatile all-round sport horse for a capable rider to progress.
Education, skills and experience: Post-racing, Billy has been educated under professional guidance and is described as well started but still green in parts. On the flat he has established basics including leg yield, transitions and flying changes both ways, and works softly in a snaffle (uses different bits for some events as required). He is currently competing 60cm and schooling 70–75cm at home. He has attended pony club rallies, agricultural shows and clinics, and is equally happy out on trails; he’s been ridden around stock, along busy roads and with dogs, farm vehicles and general activity.
General demeanour under saddle: Billy is soft, supple and light in the bridle and will willingly collect. He is a forward, sharp ride at times and can be looky in certain situations, particularly around a showjumping course or at new venues. He can react to a rider’s nerves and may become tense as a result, so thrives with a confident, composed rider who provides clear direction. Generally calm and reliable but not unflappable.
Current workload / fitness: In regular work 3 times per week, fit, in work and currently competing. He is described as safe to hop on after a spell and does not require daily riding to remain reliable.
Handling: Very quiet to handle on the ground and tolerant of handler mistakes. Easy to catch, lead, tie, clip, wash, rug, and good for the vet and farrier. Self-loads and travels quietly, unloading calmly at the other end. Currently shod in front and barefoot behind. In unfamiliar environments he can become unsure, but remains well mannered and safe to handle.
Feeding and management: Flexible management. Currently stabled overnight and paddocked during the day; in summer lives out 24/7 and adjusts well to changes. Can be kept with others or on his own; prefers a companion within sight. Hard feed morning and night with hay provided.
Medical history: Vaccinated for Tetanus, Strangles and Equine Influenza (Oct 2025). Last dental August 2025. Small cosmetic scars noted.
Rider Suitability: Best matched to a capable, confident rider aged 16 who is under regular professional instruction and comfortable with a forward, sensitive Thoroughbred. Suits a junior or young rider or an adult with OTT experience seeking a quality all-rounder to continue producing for pony club/adult riders, dressage/showing and low-level showjumping. Not suited to novices.
Reason for sale: Offered due to time constraints with school, worsening drought conditions, and multiple other horses in work.
